Frequently Asked Questions
What is Applied Kinesiology?
Throughout the world Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a postgraduate course with the training only offered to registered health professionals. However, in Australia, AK is currently exclusively taught to Chiropractors.
AK is a diagnostic system whereby muscle reflex patterns are tested and interpreted by a skilled practitioner to assist in determining what type of care a patient needs. It provides an immediate feedback system to enable the correct application of treatment.
Is Applied Kinesiology Chiropractic safe for Children?
Yes. Our practitioners have treated babies from one day old. About 60% of our clientel are children. We see around 1000 different children each year. Adverse reactions are extremely rare. Our treatments on Children are gentle, safe, and effective.
Are your services covered by our private health fund?
Chiropractic care is covered by most private health fund policies (MBF, NIB, Medibank). The amount you can claim depends on the fund and the type of cover you have. Please check your policy for further information.
At Your Body Works we provide HICAPS which means you can swipe your private health fund card on the spot and you just pay the difference.
Are your services covered by Medicare?
The simple answer is ‘No’. However, if you or your child has been approved by your GP for the ‘Enhanced Primary Care Program’ then you are able to be reimbursed a portion of our treatment fee through Medicare for up to five sessions. In this case you will be asked to pay for the consultation in full and then be reimbursed through Medicare.
Will I need X-Rays?
Depending on what your patient history reveals, you may or may not require x-rays. If your practitioner recommends an x-ray, you can be referred to the radiology centre of your choice. Provided you have a current Medicare card (ie you are an Australian citizen), your spinal x-rays can be bulk-billed. Peripheral x-rays (eg., knees, wrists) if recommended by a Chiropractor can not be bulk-billed.
What will it cost?
- Initial consultation $100 allow 45minutes
- Standard consultation $60 allow 15minutes

How many visits will my Children or I need?
Most children under care to assist with their learning and behaviour (Retained Neonatal Reflexes) require 6-9 weekly visits. Adults will usually be recommended a short course of treatment, usually between 6-12 sessions.
Do I need a referral?
No. While most of our patients come in from referrals from Behavioural Optometrists, Occupational Therapists, Sound Therapists, Pediatric Physiotherapists, and Special Needs Teachers, you do not need a referral for Chiropractic care. Our clinic however has been built largely by word of mouth referrals. |
