Did you know… your hormones can influence how your body feels, moves, and recovers?

Many women are taught about their period… but not necessarily about everything that happens between them.

What often gets missed is that your hormones don’t just influence your cycle—they can also affect your energy, mood, sleep, stress tolerance, recovery, and even how your body feels from week to week.

At Your Body Works, we often see women who begin noticing patterns in how their body feels throughout the month.

Maybe your headaches seem to show up at the same time each cycle. Maybe your lower back feels tighter during your period. Maybe some weeks your workouts feel easier, your energy is higher, and your body feels more resilient… while other weeks you feel stiffer, more tired, or more easily overwhelmed.

And once you start noticing those patterns… things often start making a lot more sense.

As a mum myself, this is something I’m really passionate about. Understanding our hormones can help us work with our body instead of constantly feeling like it’s working against us—and it’s absolutely something I hope to teach my daughter when she’s old enough.

What does this actually mean in real life?

Understanding your cycle isn’t about overanalysing your hormones or trying to perfectly plan your month around them.

It’s about recognising that your body may naturally feel different at different times of your cycle—and that there’s usually a reason for it.

During the first half of your cycle, as estrogen begins to rise, many women notice they feel more energetic, mentally clearer, stronger, or like movement and recovery come a little easier.

Around ovulation, some women feel at their best—more confident, social, motivated, and physically resilient.

Then during the second half of the cycle, as progesterone rises, some women notice the opposite.

This might look like:

  • Feeling more tired or emotionally stretched

  • Poorer sleep or feeling less recovered

  • More headaches or neck tension

  • Lower back, pelvic, or muscle tightness

  • Feeling more overstimulated or less tolerant to stress

And then once your period arrives, some women feel flat, crampy, or like their body needs more rest… while others actually feel relief.

It simply means your body may need something different at different times of the month.

And once you start recognising those patterns… things often start making a lot more sense.

Where does chiropractic fit in?

At Your Body Works, we’re not here to “fix hormones.”

But we do often help women better understand how hormonal changes may influence:

  • Tension patterns

  • Posture and movement

  • Recovery

  • Stress and nervous system regulation

  • Headaches, neck tension, or lower back discomfort

For some women, simply recognising these patterns can be incredibly helpful.

It may even change how you think about your care.

Maybe your headaches tend to flare in the week before your period. Maybe your lower back or pelvis feels more sensitive during your cycle. Maybe you notice certain times of the month when your body simply needs a little extra support.

Understanding your cycle may help you better understand your body—and even help guide when you choose to prioritise your care.

Chiropractic care may help support movement, comfort, recovery, and nervous system balance—especially during the times of the month when your body feels like it’s asking for a little extra support.

Your body is allowed to feel different

As women, our bodies are not designed to feel exactly the same every day.

And that’s not weakness. It’s biology.

The more we understand our patterns, the better we can support them—and maybe one day, teach our daughters to do the same.

If you’ve noticed your body feels different at different times of the month, our team at Your Body Works is always happy to chat.
